Craft Projects for Sukkot

01322251039_candycanesoap.jpgSukkot is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the 40 years in which the people of Israel wandered the desert and lived in temporary shelters. This holiday is also known as the Feast of Tabernacles, and it is celebrated for 7 days. This joyous holiday is a great reason for crafting, and this article will provide you with several craft projects for Sukkot.

Fruit Garland
Fruits and vegetables are a symbol of Sukkot and the time of harvest, and they are a great focus for creating Sukkot crafts. For this craft project you will need felt in various colors, glue, ribbon, and scissors.
Start by cutting out various fruit shapes for the felt, and remember to use heavy felt. For a lemon cut out a rounded diamond shape from yellow felt, for an orange cut an orange circle and add a small black circle to the top of it, and for an apple cut out a red circle and add a green stem and leaf. Grapes can be made by cutting several small purple or green circles and gluing them onto a larger piece of felt in the shape of a bunch of grapes; add a stem and a leaf and your grapes are complete.
After all of your fruits are complete simply glue them to the ribbon in intervals, and hang this homemade Sukkot craft in your home or your Sukkah.
Corn Wreath
Corn is another traditional symbol of Sukkot and it can be used to make a beautiful wreath; for this project you will need some grapevines, wire, glue, ribbon, and ornamental corn. Start by bending and twisting the vines into a wreath shape; wrap the vines around each other and secure with the wire. Add the corn to the sides, top, bottom, or middle of the wreath using the glue. When the corn has dried tie the ribbon into a bow and glue it on top of the wire to cover the wire. This wreath makes an excellent craft project and decoration for Sukkot.
Sukkah Tapestry
Sukkot is a joyous holiday that can be celebrated by making a tapestry to hang in your sukkah. For this craft project you will need a large sheet or piece of white fabric, paintbrushes, and fabric paint. You may also want to use a pencil to draw the images you intend on painting on the cloth beforehand.

Easter Egg Napkin Holder Craft Project

11322243196_thankful-tree-thanksgiving-craft-photo-420-ff1102tablea09.jpgEaster Craft for Kids
This Easter Egg Napkin Holder is perfect to display on your kitchen table during the Easter holiday. It is made out of air drying clay and very durable. The kids can really get into this craft project and display their artistic abilities. Be sure to lay out a plastic tarp or plastic tablecloth for the kids to work on. Clay can be a messy art product and kids know just how to get it everywhere!
To Make an Easter Egg Napkin Holder Craft Project You Will Need:
Poster board or sturdy thick paper
Egg shaped Cookie cutter (optional)
Pencil
Scissors
Air Drying Clay
Butter Knife (Plastic or Metal)
Tooth Picks, pencils, wooden skewers, or clay tools
Rollin pin
Acrylic Paint
Clear Acrylic Spray Paint
To start this craft project first have the kids draw out a simple egg shape on some paper. This egg should be about 6 inches tall and about 4 inches wide.
If you have an egg shaped cookie cutter this size you could use this instead.
Next, cut the Easter Egg shape out with scissors.
Break off a hunk of air drying clay and roll it out to a sheet of clay that is about ½ inch thick. You can use a rolling pin to do this.
Lay the Easter Egg cut out on the clay and trace around it with a toothpick. Repeat this process making two Easter Egg. Cut the shape out with a paring knife or plastic butter knife. Next, cut out a rectangle that is as wide as the base as the Easter Egg and about 3 inches deep. This will be the base of the napkin hold that allows it to stand up.
The kids can carve details in to the two Easter Egg shapes or even add details making three-dimensional pieces out of left over clay. Circles, stripes, squiggles and curly cues are all good shapes.
It is a good idea to make sure the Easter Egg will be standing in the same direction when they are standing up, but that is optional. The Easter Egg should be able to hold your napkins either way.
Once the Easter Egg has received all they’re carving a detail you need to attach them to their base. Score the edge of the base by scratching it with your toothpick. Rub some water over the marks and place the Easter Egg upright. Use your finger to shape it into the clay and really connect it. Repeat this process on the other side.
I like to support the Easter Egg napkin holder while it is drying with a canned good on either side. Wrap your canned food in plastic wrap to keep it clean. You may find that you need to ball up some newspaper and put it in between the two Easter Egg to keep them sanding up right while they dry.
Once you Easter inspired napkin holder is dried let the kids paint it any way they want with acrylic paints. They can glue beads on or paint whatever they want with pastel acrylic paints.
Once the paint has dried take the Easter Egg napkin holder outside and spray it with a thick coat of acrylic spray paint. Let this layer of paint dry and then display it on your kitchen table or counter!
For an added detail to this craft project cut out a piece of felt the same size as the base of the Easter Egg napkin holder. Glue it to the bottom of your napkin holder. This will keep the dried clay from scratching your table. You could also attach those little rubber stoppers meant to hold pictures in place on the wall.

Easy Holiday Craft For Kids-Paint Plates For Party Favors And Place Cards

21322244490_25-1.jpgPainting plates is child’s play, literally. This easy Holiday craft for kids provides double enjoyment, as a craft for kids and as a keepsake for your Holiday dinner guests.

With a minimal investment, this Holiday craft for kids can create a lifetime memory.
Materials needed for this Holiday kids craft:
Porcelain, ceramic or glass plates
A variety of paint pens
That’s all you need, two items and a kid or two.
White, smooth surface plates work best for this kid’s craft. If you’re watching your budget (who isn’t?) inexpensive plates can often be found at the Dollar Store. Wipe each plate with rubbing alcohol and allow drying before painting.
Let the kids paint whatever they want too on the plates, even small kids can trace their hand on the plates and make a turkey for use at Thanksgiving or paint a Christmas tree for Christmas dinner. Write the name of a Holiday dinner guest on the front of each plate. Add the painter’s name and date to the back of each plate.
Allow the painted plates to air dry for 24 hours, and then place the painted plates in the oven in a single layer. Turn the oven on to 300 degrees and ‘bake’ for 35 minutes to set the paint and make the plates suitable for food.
When Holiday dinner time arrives, use the painted plates as dinner table place cards and as party favors for each dinner guest to take home with them.
For variations of this painted plated kids craft, use white coffee cups, saucers or dessert plates.
